LMH Mixtape #52: Best Of Year In Review

This is it, users!  To celebrate the end of each LMH year, both boizz count down their top ten favorite new musical discoveries.  Brent and Rob switch (haha) off their selections at each level, so you'll hear both #10s, then both #9s, and so on up to the ultimate #1s.  This tradition may be a little more difficult to follow in mixtape form, but all you really need to know is that this tune parade is full of heavy-hitters whose attack power keeps increasing as the rush continues.  Make it to the end and congratulate yourselves on the first completed Legacy Music Hour year with a staff roll and some cake -- and if you have your own top ten list from the 2010-2011 era, share it down below or wherever you want!

LMH Mixtape #51: Girls, Girls, Girls

Episode 51 was definitely ladies' night at the Legacy Music Hour. Not only was the setlist comprised entirely of tracks by women composers, but Brent's sister Laura sat in on the magic from the observation booth and added to the thematic atmosphere.  Enjoy this feminine focus, then get ready to wrap up the first full year of LMH mixtapes with the upcoming Best of the Year In Review!

Episode 182: Best Of Year In Review 5

Once again, Brent and Rob countdown their top tracks of the year (Episodes 170 through 180).  This year, they present their favorite five (instead of ten) in order from fifth to first best.  As usual, tracks selected for this episode are pieces of video game music they became aware of only within the last year and that were played on the show.  Similar to last year’s countdown, Brent talks a long time at the beginning of the episode, which might be kind of boring, so sorry about that.  However, unlike any previous year, something kind of neat happens with Brent and Rob.  Listen and find out what it is.  Partial track listing below.

Game - Composer - Song - Company - Console - Year (North American release unless otherwise indicated)

Dragon Ball Z: Super Butouden 2 - Kenji Yamamoto - Ending - TOSE/Bandai - Super Famicom - 1993

LMH Mixtape #49: Koichi Sugiyama

Koichi Sugiyama was a famous composer in more traditional musical circles before he got involved with Dragon Quest, a game which quickly expanded into one of the most popular video game series in Japan.  Enjoy the classical sophistication that Sugiyama packs into his 8-bit and 16-bit compositions, and delight in the fact that he is still writing the music for the franchise today, with Dragon Quest XI slated for Japanese release in 2017.

Episode 181: Game Grumps

Brent and Rob are joined once again by Dan Avidan (having appeared two episodes ago) and this time, by Arin Hanson as well, for the full Game Grumps package.  Arin and Dan host the video game playthrough web series Game Grumps and start this episode off with some Mame That Chune-esque action, leaving Brent and Rob feeling a bit inadequate as video game music connoisseurs, but perhaps you, the users, may fare better than the boys.  Also, just in time for Halloween, Brent, Rob, Arin, and Dan share scary stories to help set the mood of the month.  Time Lord.  Full track listing below.

LMH Mixtape #48: Keith Apicary and Nathan Barnatt

Dear Users, do you remember your first LMH episode?  KeyGlyph does.  It was Episode 48!  Keith Apicary and Nathan Barnatt both visited the headquarters way back when, and they each brought a list of games; from those games the boizz compiled a decidedly Sega-heavy setlist of tunes, which you can now listen to in mixtape form, several years later, as compiled by KeyGlyph.  In some weird kind of way it's like things have just come around full circle. Try to fight off the motion sickness, and enjoy!

Episode 179: Technical Difficulties

Lots of technical difficulties on Episode 179, and a variety of them at that.  Rob constantly gets disconnected, there’s a power surge, audio delays, Rob’s microphone cord breaks, Brent says “um” way more than usual.  Just one tech issue after the next.  So please bear with this episode and the awkward moments these issues create.  On the bright side, however, Brent and Rob are joined by Dan Avidan, from the band Ninja Sex Party and one of hosts of the video game playthrough series, Game Grumps.  Rob also shares a dramatic story about an interaction he had with a user named Ted.  NOTE: Brent’s Museum of Tolerance joke was basically derived from an Arj Barker joke, just to make sure credit is properly given here.  Full track listing below.

Episode 174: Free Play 26

Episode 174 is an unofficial focus on haircut tracks.  That is, track names that are haircut related.  Rob specifically made his track list haircut themed, and Brent did too, but spontaneously while the episode was recording, after finding out how Rob prepared.  And actually, regardless of the track names, this is definitely the haircut episode, because there's lots of talk about haircuts and scissors and other barber related stuff.  So, to recap, this is officially the haircut episode, but musically, it's ultimately, basically a free play.  Well, you be the judge.  Full track listing below.

Episode 172: Free Play 24

Brent and Rob bring in the neo year (the world’s neo year, not the LMH neo year) with another free play of great video game music.  Brent is sick, but sounds sicker than he actually is, so beware that there is a lot of throat clearing, coughing, and sniffling.  Sorry, the Legacy Music Hour hopes this isn’t too disgusting.  Also, Brent’s brothers, Max and Nicky, who were in town for the holidays, sit in to help comment and discuss and count time signatures.  Also, also, Rob and Brent open up a bunch of user submitted Christmas gifts (these gifts weren’t late, the boys just wanted to save them for the episode), so thank you to Joseph B. and KeyGlyph for the excitement and fun.  Full track listing below.
