  1. This was a great episode. I'm typically wary of guests, but Spencer Crittenden really enhanced the show in the absence of Rob. GREAT tracks in this one too!

Spencer's story about Metal Masters changing his life reminded me that Rob also introduced Alberto Jose Gonzalez into my life, much to my benefit. Metal Masters was my way in too, and opened me up to more Game Boy music. But AJG's music is what really made an impact. Very influential knowing he has such a presence still and he was self taught!

Brent introduced me to Puyo Puyo Tsuu. I seriously cannot imagine my life without that soundtrack, and later game. I remember going to Japan to find the game on Mega Drive for Brent, but coming up short. I did, however, find it in a cabinet at Super Potato, and I got to play it in a very authentic atmosphere. I'll always remember that, and I wouldn't have sought out such an experience had I not been introduced to the music from Area C, which is still one of my favorite pieces of music of all time in any genre.

    Thanks LMH!

  2. Thats nuts! Tales of Phantasia has more encounters than Mother? Mother was hard for me to get through. Generally rpgs tended to have less and less encounters as the years went on. I could be wrong but I don't think the programmers made more random encounters to stop pirating. As far as I know, the game was pretty much done and ready to be released in the US, but for whatever reason it never did. A couple years after I beat Mother I watched someone speedrun it. He pause buffered to access the menu constantly which I believe resets the step counter value to zero so you don't have to battle as much.

    1. I purchased Mother on the Wii U Virtual Console (legit) and the encounter rate is still crazy high. I didn't make it very far in the game due to the constant battles. Maybe one day.

    2. Play Mother 3 if you haven't yet. Imho it's the best of the trilogy. On top of that, it's one of my favorite jrps. The story and characters are incredible. The only area where it could have been better is the soundtrack. Not that it's bad, it's just kinda hard to follow Hip Tanaka and keichi suzuki.

  3. Oh, the irony! User Nathan here. I had totally forgotten that I suggested the Time Trax track to you, Brent, but I’ve been waiting for about four months for you to play it. Why is that ironic? I’ll tell you:

Months ago, I set up an appointment to have Rob cut my hair(I hadn’t met him yet). When I got there, he sat me down and asked me how I wanted my hair cut. At some point, I slipped in a “could be, could be”. His eyes lit up. “Oh, you’re a USER? Well Okay then!” And it was all hardcore VGM goodness from then on.
He pulled out his playlist, played the Mad Gear cassette, and we played Mame That Chune. Although I didn’t reach level Weinbach, I put up a pretty good showing. I told him that I am User Kelsey’s brother, and I brought a 6-button gift for the shop.

I also told him I was a guest on episode 60 of the Pixelated Audio podcast, where we talked about my favorite OST, Herzog Zwei….and they sprung a surprise interview on me with HZ composer Tomomi Otani! Actually, I don’t speak Japanese, so I just sat there with my jaw on the floor while host Bryan asked the questions.

So the irony: I told Rob about Tim Follin doing Time Trax. I couldn’t find the songs on my phone because I labeled them incorrectly, but he wasn’t aware of the game, and he was super excited to go home and give it a listen.

And I’ve been waiting ever since for him to play that Trax……but that was just after you guys recorded 3 back-to-back episodes, and then he broke his leg. So there it is. My Rob F. haircut Time Trax Mame that Chune ironic story.

    1. So since I wasn't clear, the irony is that I've been waiting every episode for Rob to spring a Time Trax track, but it was actually Brent, all the time!

....I also am obliged to mention that Rob gave me possibly the best haircut I've ever had. That dude knows his stuff.

  8. Is LMH going to be uploaded to SoundCloud? The last episode was posted 6 months ago. You have over 100,000 SoundCloud users (for some reason they are listed as "followers").

Can't wait to finish the new episode. The guest is great and I really enjoyed that Time Trax track.

    1. The Uchuu Race: Astro Go! Go! track's bass line reminds me a lot of the old Dee Lite song, Groove is in the Heart.

    2. The SoundCloud account is run by Nerdist and they've been having trouble uploading episodes to it. No one at SoundCloud seems to be able to help them. Brent and Rob have never even touched the SoundCloud account, so they don't know the login info or how to update it.

  9. I'm finally caught up on the episodes. The Jungle Wars 2 track is such a jam. Can't wait to check out the rest of the soundtrack. As far as some composer info goes, I think that Michiya Hirasawa may have had a hand in composing the soundtrack to Blue Marlin. He worked on the Black Bass series, which Blue Marlin was technically part of.

  10. Speaking of Tim Follin, here's one you haven't played before. I heard it on VGMpire episode 1. I think you'll both like it: Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge - Cyclops - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ncQGuNqUis

  11. Love the Mitch Murder reference. I remember the Mute City and Outride A Crisis tracks from the first few years of the LMH podcast that he covered in his music.
