Episode 200: Episode 200! (Live)

Brent and Rob celebrate the 200th episode of The Legacy Music Hour with a live recording in Los Angeles.  Lots of fun and laughs and hijinks take place during this momentous occasion with a handful of guest commentators, a healthy amount of audience participation, a few in-person video game music related performances, and even some actual video game playing.  Bad boizz, birth-talk, and baseball -this episode is jammed packed with action and good video game music from the third and fourth generation.  Thank you to all who have supported the podcast over the last seven and a half years.  Note: Just like Episode 100 and 150, the photo is missing some people, because it wasn’t taken immediately after the show was over and they had already left.  Full track listing below.

  3. Congratulations on reaching 200 episodes guys! Wow! So much quality! How do you do it?

I haven't finished the episode quite yet, but just wanted to pop in to mention that the Nightmare Circus track was super creepy and gave me a strong Dr. Octagon vibe:

  4. I remembered within a day of the taping the names of Harumi Fujita, Eveline Fisher, and Michiko Naruke. I was also sitting there thinking, "Who did the elevator music?" but I never would have pulled Soyo Oka. And "Kagama" was me rearranging the name of Kumi Yamaga, whose music appeared once, way back in episode 6.

  6. "No disrespect to c-sections." Quote of the year.

Thanks for a fantastic time, everybody -- boizz, staff, and users alike. The energy in there was mmm poppin' and I'm so grateful to have marinated in it.

  7. That clap break down like a Michael Jackson's choir just came out of no where on the Naoki Kodaka track was awesome. Love that!

  8. How do you we get Daren's mixtape?

  9. Awesome episode! Thanks for rising the podcast from it's grave and keeping it going for us die-hards. I would love to hear some more of Brent's piano covers. Maybe it would be cool to release a VGM piano cover every once in a while like the ones on the covers ep. Still want to hear that bossa-nova Brinstar. You guys are doing the (time) Lord's work here. I have GOT to get that Sentimental album.

  10. This all sounded like so much fun! I'm jealous of everyone who got to be there live. Brent's piano covers, Stefan G's and Josh's singing, and prostrations to the Time Lord. What an event. What a time to be alive.

Thanks for mentioning the VGM Karaoke Lounge.
Just a reminder to all, you can find us here:

And if anyone wants their LMH or VGMJB karaoke featured in the lounge, just send an MP3 over to jungletoads@yahoo.com and I'll get you up there.

  11. Hi, splendid episode. One thing though: I would love to get even more behind the scenes by knowing who is who in the picture. Sure, if you don't want your identity revealed then stay in the shadows but maybe some of you could comment on who you are? Brent and Rob are obvious and I guess the Gabe is the one with the sideburns in the background? Also Stefan is probably the dude flashing the two cartridges. But are there any other people of LMH-fame who dare to reveal themselves?

    Thx, best, Markus

    1. Oh we dare! Keyglyph is right in front of Sentimental and they are both wearing red.

    2. Thanks! Good to see you guys. Makes it even more personal to know who is who.

  12. You're right about Gabe and me. I could offer insights on Sentimental and keyglyph, but you said "reveal themselves" so I'm not sure I should say.

P.S. The bump on my forehead is temporary (I hope)! It's not an injury or anything. Not that anyone asked, but I thought I'd put it out there.

  13. There's some weird complications around Navy Blue that I want to talk about. (I wrote up some stuff that turned out to be not entirely correct, so I deleted it, as can be seen above.) There's a Japanese-only Game Boy game called Navy Blue '90 that has the same in-game music as was heard in this episode. But there's also a game for Game Boy simply called Navy Blue, with a different soundtrack (I recommend the in-game music; it's not action-packed like the Famicom track in this episode, but it's cinematic with a military feel). Also, there's a North American Game Boy game called Battleship which is identical to Navy Blue (aside from some details of localization). And then there's an NES Battleship game with another soundtrack (Wikipedia credits Mark Knight), which appears to be a completely different game from Famicom's Navy Blue. So there you go!

Thank you for all these years of quality time with quality music. Here's to hundreds (thousands?) more!
    Cheers from Brazil!

  16. Congratulations Legacy Music Hour on your 200th episode. I wish I had the chance to witness this live! The recording will just have to do. Some pretty solid tracks here. I'm really digging that St.GIGA 10 Gatsu Gou track.

Stefan was a super star on this episode! Congrats on Time Lord and an amazing VGM karaoke performance (Sentimental NSG did an amazing job too).
