  1. Shikinjou is like Shanghai combined with Soukoban. Your character pushes around mahjongg tiles to make his way to the exit, and pushing a tile against an identical one causes both to disappear. But there are also tiles that can't be pushed that render any tile pushed against them unpushable as well.

Shikinjou (transcribed various ways, as one or three words, with or without hyphens, with the last syllable as "jou," "joh," "jo," or "jyo") has been a standalone game on several consoles, and most of them have some music in common (I haven't figured out who the original composer is, though). The Famicom version has all unique music, though, apparently composed by Masaharu Iwata. I'm mostly familiar with the Game Boy version, which was on a multi-game bootleg cartridge my friend had in elementary school. If you ever decide to play music from that version (there are a few tracks worth your while!), I can probably tell you where the music can be found in the game if you drop me a line.

  2. Peg is my favorite Steely Dan song too! But it's not as popular as Deacon Blues, Ricky Don't Lose that Number, or Reelin' in the Years.

At least, I heard all of those other songs on the radio first, and didn't hear Peg until I listened to Aja from beginning to end, but I wasn't alive in the 70's so what do I know.

  3. The section of Adventure Island 2-Cloud Island that Brent said was interesting sounds like Final Fantasy-Prelude.
My favorite Cho Aniki title is Cho Aniki: Seinaru Protein Densetsu which would translate to Super Big Brother: Legend of the Holy Protein. Your special attack in that game is the "men's beam."
Unrelated to the episode but has anyone seen Capcom is releasing an arcade home console?
Great tunes and funny goofs. Thanks!!

  4. For the record, I listened to this episode when it came out. Don't know why I didn't reply. Even though it's no big whoop to Brent, I'll say the things I didn't earlier: I had Rambo II back in my SMS days, and loved it. Rambo II is when he's having a flashback. SMS did better in its early days than NES with 2 player games(i.e. pre-Turtles II), and this is a good example of that.

So many good hot jamz on this episode! Great Genesis love. Love that you played another HZ track. That OST is right up there in my top 5 OSTs of all time, along with Revenge of Shinobi, Super Castlevania IV, Mr. Gimmick!, and the other 30 OSTs that tie for 5th.

My favorite Steely Dan song is Night by Night, mostly because of the opening guitar licks.

  7. I would have commented sooner but I think I was stunned into silent service by the shocking revelation that "Gabe doesn't know Peg..." ; >

Peg's probably my second fave Steely Dan song... after Kid Charlemagne obvs.

Another stone cold bonk episode boizzzz. That's a z each for Brent, Rob, Gabe and Trev.

  8. We hear you! Don't worry, the episode is getting out, I just listen to it on my podcast app rather than through the site. Superb episode as always, anyone that has the balls to play McDonald's tracks is commendable! One note: from my understanding herzog zwie is pronounced in German as "hurt-zog zvah-ee" although I'm not a German speaker.

  9. This was a great episode. Great tracks, and the Starbucks portion and Rob F comment "it's not me, it's you", was hilarious as always.
